And yes, we do have a thing about beets ...
ABOUT THREE BEETS
Three Beets specializes in the photography of food in all of its forms: from seed to serving and everywhere inbetween. We're drawn to the magic of the chefs, growers, artisans, and gourmands who live their lives in close connection to the foods that nourish them. Our work seeks to elevate the pureness and beauty of foods that are produced with intention, commitment, and depth, and we strive to reflect that sense of connection through our images.
The scope of our work has encompassed both print and online projects in advertising, identity, packaging, menu, cookbook, fine art, and more.
EQUIPMENT & PROCESSES
While we most often work with high-end professional digital imaging equipment, we also offer a number of historical and traditional wet-process techniques to give our projects a unique visual edge, including platinum, black-and white film, and wet plate collodion.
WHO WE ARE
Three Beets is a joint venture of Chris and Julie Rorrer, who also have been sharing the joint venture (and adventure!) of marriage for some 14 years now. Both Julie and Chris hold degrees in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design.
JULIE has pursued additional photographic education at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Maine Photographic Workshops, and the George Eastman House.
CHRIS has held internships with Pulitzer-prize winning photojournalist Bill Eppridge and fine art photographer Maria Von Matthiessen. He has also studied with noted wet-plate photographer John Coffer. Additionally, Chris brings to his work a discerning eye for design and marketing savvy gained from many years experience as an art and creative director.
When we're not photographing food, chances are good that we're either growing it, cooking it, eating it, or writing about it. Or sometimes daydreaming about it.
Based in Austin, Texas, we are available for assignments and projects near and far.
